So my first internet friend back in 07 was Alan Lastufka (Fallofautumndistro).

Who was yours?

Back in 2003 I became friends with a guy named Frank. My first real internet friend. He started his own sample library music company and I helped him produce a few titles. I also worked with him as the graphic designer for all of his products for years and we used to spend hours on the phone/AOL chat back then. We made quite the splash in the virtual instrument sample world. He still runs the company, Bela D Media.

When I was 15 I remember I applied for my first job at a record shop. The job application asked for my three favorite bands. I’ve been waiting my entire adult life for another job application/interview to ask that question.

bombsfadeaway: I found a nerdfighter note in a TFiOS at Powell’s Books in downtown Portland! It’s the first time I’d ever found one in the wild, and all I was doing was pulling it off the shelf to show a friend (who ended up buying Looking for Alaska “to start from the beginning”). Score!

Sometimes I will spend 2 hours working on a design for no reason. The Caulden Road does not have a song, or album, called 2084. Nor are we working on one. But I started out with a grungy paint background (which I then faded out so much that the specks looked like stars, not breaks in the paint texture). Then I added a speaker cone. And overlayed an eye. Then broke that up with a graph of some topographical data. Then color blended in an aurora borealis. Of course, gotta add in a couple moons… It felt a little big brother-y to me, but further in the future… so I named it 2084, a hundred years after 1984. And bam! You have thousands of pixels of wasted time. Hah. Unless, of course, I end up writing a futuristic big brother song I can call “2084”. Then you have cool digital single album cover art. =)
