So let’s say I wanted to build an app that people could download using a keycode included with my physical CDs. This app would open like any other, in its own window, and it would provide the lyrics, wallpapers, HD music videos, exclusive remixes/demos/alternate versions/whatever. AND, here’s the best part, it would update (like any other app) with new content as it becomes available.
Like… after Erase This came out, I released the “Boxcar Blood” music video. But there was no way I could have included “Boxcar Blood“‘s music video on the Erase This DVD, because of the production time needed, but I COULD have added it after the fact to an exclusive app and then everyone who bought the physical Erase This CD could have had the HD music video, just as if I had included it on the DVD. And I could have included like, director’s commentary tracks on the video, and animation cells and everything. Way more than I could do with just a YouTube upload.
Is this even possible?
Could each album come with a diff keycode and like, all of them unlock inside the same app based on which keycodes you enter? So there would be one app with multiple albums of exclusive/extended content, you could then buy/download new exclusive content right from within the app, etc, with links back to DFTBA.com for the physicals when new physical releases are available?
God that’d be awesome.
I mean, essentially you’d be extending the life of the album because over time it could evolve and grow into this amazing deluxe app of content. So much of what happens with an album (tours, music videos, remixes, wallpapers, covers) happen AFTER the album’s production, and the only way to get that content to fans is to re-release the album, again locking it into a moment in history. Then a few years later, re-release it yet again. An app like this would eliminate that.
CC’ing Hank and Alex because I think they’ll think this is awesome.
