I do a bit of bitching here about the mastering of other musician’s albums, so I just wanted to show I’m …putting my music where my mouth is?
The top waveform: The new Reimagined version of “Just A Boy” I posted a couple weeks ago.
The bottom waveform: A track from Michael Jackson’s Xscape album, released today.
Go take a listen to the Reimagined version of “Just A Boy” and tell me there’s anything missing from the punch or “loudness” of the track. In fact, the actual argument here is that there is more punch in “Just A Boy” because it is, in fact, more dynamic.
Without quiet there can be no loud.
Proof you can have a thumping, modern song and dynamic mastering in the same track. Who would’ve thought?
